Ultrasonic joining of LTA envelope parts
Combining various joining and welding technologies on LTA assembly
During 2024, we started adopting the ultrasonic joining of Blimp and Aerostat parts. There are several technologies for this task: classic with glue, thermal welding and ultrasonic. Ultrasonic is the newest technology and is extremely successful in joining parts of smaller blimps and inflatable shapes up to several meters. It is also irreplaceable for smaller irregular (custom) shapes because in combination with the Exact Flat software it leads to finished, finished shapes much faster, simpler and better. Our intention is to fully adopt the technology during 2024 and to connect all Blimps and custom shapes up to 5 meters exclusively with ultrasonic technology. This technology enables work on larger envelopes of 5 m with overlapping welds, however, the hardware is different and more complex. Our intention is to introduce overlapping welds with an ultrasonic machine into production in 2025 and 2026. However, preparation, as in all production branches, is the key to success. It is the same with ultrasonic technology, where the complete preparation must be extremely precise, that is, digital, from the 3D model itself to the preparation for welding itself.
